Describe an unusual relationship and say what a young person learns from it

In the novel The Outsiders written by S.E Hinton in 1967. One unusual relationship is between Darry and Ponyboy because Ponyboy thinks that Darry does not like him, Darry hits Ponyboy and Ponyboy runs away. Lastly Darry and Ponyboy finally realise they love each other. The authors intention is to tell us that even though their brothers still have an unusual relationship.

Darry and Ponyboy have an unusual relationship because Pony thinks that Darry does not like him but Darry is a father figure to Ponyboy and soda after their parents died in an auto wreck. An example of this is when Pony gets jumped by the socs and Pony compares sodapop to Darry “he’s never hollering at me like Darry does or treating me like I’m six instead of fourteen”. This show that Pony gets annoyed at Darry a lot because he’s always yelling at him. Another example of this is when Darry says “are you crazy a greaser can’t soak alone if they see yup they will beat you up”. This shows us that Darry is only trying to look out for his younger brother. The authors intention is to tell us that Darry is only trying to look out for Pony and protective of him. A younger person can learn from this relationship is that even though your older siblings always yell at you they just want you to be safe.

Secondly Darry and Ponyboy have an unusual relationship because Darry hits Ponyboy and Ponyboy runs away. An example of this is when Pony comes home late from the lot and Darry hits him. Ponyboy describes ” Darry wheeled around and slapped me so hard that it knocked me against the door”. This tells us that Darry can get very violent when he gets upset. Another example of this is when Johnny try’s to comfort Ponyboy ” well don’t be, your scaring me I’ve never seen you bawl like that”. This tells us that Ponyboy was shocked by what his older brother did. The authors intention is to tell us that Darry was really upset because Ponyboy came after curfew. A young person can learn from this relationship that do what your told and follow it.

Lastly Darry and Ponyboy have an unusual relationship because Ponyboy realises that Darry does in fact love him. An example of this is when Ponyboy was waiting in the hospital waiting room and Ponyboy says ” I realised Darry and all the trouble he’s been through and for the first time he’s crying”. This tells us that even though Darry is violent he still does have an emotional side when he saw Ponyboy. Another example of this is when pony says ” after mom and dad died in an auto wreck,me and soda try to stay out of much trouble as we can”. This tells us that pony is trying to make things easier for Darry after dropping out of school and trying to earn a living. The authors intention is to tell us that Ponyboy and Darry do get along and Darry was happy to see Ponyboy. A young person can learn from this relationship is that even though siblings fight they still love each other.

Describe the relationship between two main characters and say why it was important in the film

The film Bend It Like Beckham, produced in 2002, was directed by Gurinder Chadha. One important relationship is between Jules and Jess. Their relationship is important because they share the same love of football how ever their relationship starts to get a little bit unstable when they both like Jo their soccer coach forming a loving triangle towards the end their relationship starts to get stable when jules shows up to Jess’ sisters wedding showing the cultural differences. The directors intention is to show us that even though they fight during the film and they come from different backgrounds, they have a strong relationship.

Their relationship is important because they share the same love of football. This is shown when the use of a wide shot shows us Jess playing soccer at the park and Jules sitting and watching. The use of dialogue is also shown when Jules goes up to Jess saying “you should come for a trial ” and inviting Jess to play for their local soccer team the Hounslow harriers.From this i learnt that Jules is an inclusive person inviting Jess to play soccer and that Jess and Jules are really passionate about her love of sport and . The director’s intention is to show us that they have a strong relationship and that some relationships can start of from common interest.

Their relationship is also important because Joes love triangle shows us that they start to have a unstable relationship. This is shown when the use of tracking is used in the dance club scene. Tracking in is used when Jules invites joe to dance on the dance floor but Jo then invites Jess to dance showing us the love triangle when Jules gets pushed aside the used of tracking out shows us Jules walking away when she gets jealous. The use of music tells us that their at a dance club and a rowdy place. From this i learnt that Jules really likes Joe when she gets jealous of Jess and Joe together . The directors intention is to show us that teenage girls let a boy get in between their friendship and ruin it.

Lastly, their relationship is important because of their cultural differences. This is shown when the use of costume shows is that they come from different backgrounds at the wedding scene. When Jules comes to Jess’ sisters wedding wearing trousers and a top and Jess is wearing a sari as well as everyone other girl at the wedding and the boys are wearing long top and pants. The use of background music also shows us that come from different cultures because of english songs and then indian music. From this i learnt that Jess and Jules like to learn what sort of culture they come from. The director’s intention is to show us that even though they come from different backgrounds, they have a strong relationship. Also that true friends look at each others personality not their backgrounds.

In the film Bend It Like Beckham one important relationship is between Jules and Jess. This is important because the use of two shot shows their shared love of football, the use of tracking shows the love triangle with Joe and the use of costume shows the cultural differences between the girls. The director’s intention is to show us that even though they fight during the film and they come from different backgrounds, they have a strong relationship.
